- Passage
The relationship was moderate and significant (r = 0.31; p < 0.01). This shows that intensive social media use has a negative effect on the news consumption of young adults.
- Finding
- A causal claim on data from a single point in time.
- Explanation
- A survey at one point in time measures association. With r = 0.31 you cannot tell what is cause and what is effect: perhaps people who already avoid news simply spend more time on social media.
- Revision step
- Can a measurement at one point in time show what is cause and what is effect? If not: which wording fits what your data actually show? And if you keep “effect”, how do you justify that in your method section?

What you get
Verdict and what to tackle first
In a few sentences you read what is working and what is holding your text back right now: the two or three things that actually matter. Useful when you have been staring at your own text for weeks and no longer know whether it is any good.
Analysis of your text
We check whether your research question, your central claim and your evidence still line up, and whether your data really says what you make it say. You also get the hard questions an examiner or supervisor might ask, so you read them here first.
Priority actions
What has to come first, in order, with what can wait. Four evenings left before your deadline? Then you know exactly where to start.
Strengths and quick improvements
You also see what is already working, so you do not cut a strong passage by accident while redrafting. And you see what you can fix tonight versus what takes half a day.
Annotations
The comments sit in the margin of your own PDF, next to the sentence they are about. You see straight away whether something is important or just a suggestion, and every comment tells you how to tackle it. The writing is yours. We do not write a single line for you.
Next steps
A few questions to think through yourself, and to bring to your next meeting with your supervisor. So you turn up with a concrete question instead of “what do you think?”
Start your review
Upload your pdf and complete the intake.
Your document stays yours and is never used to train AI.
Pricing
After your upload you get a free preview: up to three comments on one section of your text. If you then pay, you get the full review: comments on your whole text, what to tackle first, questions an examiner might ask and your report as a PDF. You pay once, based on the length of your document.
Feedback on your work shouldn’t be a privilege.
Esmond reads your whole text, from a short essay to a full dissertation, from €3.99. That makes a first round of feedback on substance a normal step before you submit, for every assignment, not only the final one.
Frequently asked questions
Does Esmond write text for me?
No. You only receive feedback and points for attention. You remain the author of every sentence.
Is this generative AI?
Esmond works with language models, the same kind of technology as ChatGPT. But we use them to evaluate, not to write: you get feedback on your own text, never sentences to submit. You remain the author.
Can I try before I pay?
Yes. Upload a PDF and get a free preview with your first feedback. Only then do you decide whether you want the full feedback.
Is my document stored?
Your original file and the extracted text are deleted as soon as your report is ready (if that fails, at most 90 days after your upload). Your report, which contains your full text with our comments, remains available until 90 days after your upload, so you can download it again. After that we delete it automatically.
How is Esmond different from a writing tool?
A writing tool helps you formulate. Esmond gives feedback: it shows the weak spots in your own text, read through the lens of your field. You get concrete points to improve, not generic tips.
Does Esmond replace my supervisor or lecturer?
No. Your supervisor and examiners assess your work; Esmond helps you prepare. It shows the weak spots now, so you can fix them before you submit.
Who is Esmond for?
For students in Ireland who want to strengthen an essay, assignment, final year project or dissertation before they submit it.
Does Esmond also do spell and language checking?
We leave spelling to Microsoft 365. We focus on content, structure, sources and argumentation. That is where most of the work is. For sources we look at how you use them in your text; Esmond does not read the original publications.
Am I allowed to use Esmond for my dissertation?
Rules on AI differ per university, module and assignment, so check your module or programme handbook and ask your supervisor if in doubt. Esmond evaluates text you wrote and never writes it for you, but your institution's rules always come first.
