An essay that disappoints is often not badly written. They answer a slightly different question, describe instead of argue, or make a point the evidence does not support. Esmond reads your essay against the question you were set and shows where that happens.
See how Esmond worksEssay questions carry instructions in their verbs. 'Discuss', 'evaluate', 'to what extent' and 'compare' each ask for something different. An essay that explains a theory clearly when the question asked you to evaluate it will read as knowledgeable but off target.
Esmond reads your introduction for the position you take, then checks whether each paragraph moves that position forward. Paragraphs that are accurate but do not serve the argument are flagged as candidates to cut or to connect.
You upload your draft as a PDF. Short documents come back within minutes; a full dissertation takes longer. You get two things back: your own document with comments in the margin, and a separate feedback report that sets out what to tackle first. Every upload starts with a free preview, and the price follows the length of your document and is shown before you pay. No subscription, no account.
Esmond evaluates your work and writes nothing for you. Each comment points to a passage, explains what a supervisor or examiner might question, and gives a direction for revising it. You decide what to change, and every sentence stays yours.
Esmond is preparing its launch in Ireland and is not taking orders here yet. This page explains what the review does, so you know what to expect when it opens.
An essay of a few thousand words gets the same reading as a long dissertation: passage by passage, through the lens of your discipline. A history essay is read for how you handle sources and interpretation, a philosophy essay for the structure of the argument, a social policy essay for how you use evidence.
Be straight with yourself: Esmond works with language models, so using it is a form of AI use. Rules on AI differ per university, programme, module and assignment. Check your module or programme handbook before you upload, and if it is unclear, ask your supervisor or module coordinator and declare the use if your institution asks you to.
That is not its focus. Esmond reads for argument, structure, evidence and use of sources. It may point out a sentence whose meaning is unclear, but it is not a language checker.
Include the question in your PDF, for example on the first page. Esmond then reads your essay against it.
No. Esmond gives no marks or grades. Your lecturer assesses the essay.
