Feedback on your literature review

A common comment on a literature review is that it summarises instead of synthesising. Esmond shows where your review lists studies one by one, and where it builds the frame your own research needs.

Summary versus synthesis

A summary tells the reader what each author found. A synthesis tells the reader what the field knows, where authors disagree, and what is still open, so that your research question follows logically. Supervisors read for the second.

Esmond flags paragraphs that move from source to source without a claim of your own, and points to places where a comparison or a disagreement would make the gap you are filling visible.

What the review looks at

Thematic, chronological or methodological

There is more than one sound way to organise a review: by theme, by the development of a debate over time, or by the methods earlier studies used. Students often mix these without meaning to, so a thematic section suddenly turns into a timeline. Esmond looks at whether the organising principle you chose is visible and held, and whether each section ends by saying what it means for your own project.

How it works

You upload your draft as a PDF. Short documents come back within minutes; a full dissertation takes longer. You get two things back: your own document with comments in the margin, and a separate feedback report that sets out what to tackle first. Every upload starts with a free preview, and the price follows the length of your document and is shown before you pay. No subscription, no account.

Esmond evaluates your work and writes nothing for you. Each comment points to a passage, explains what a supervisor or examiner might question, and gives a direction for revising it. You decide what to change, and every sentence stays yours.

A note on sources

Esmond reads how you use your sources in your text. It does not open or read the original publications, so it cannot confirm that a paper says what you report. It can show where a claim leans on a source more than the sentence suggests.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload only my literature review?

Yes. Upload the chapter as a PDF and choose 'Literature or systematic review' as the document type. A stand-alone literature review assignment works the same way.

Does Esmond find sources for me?

No. Esmond evaluates the review you wrote. Finding and reading the literature is your work.
