Feedback on your dissertation conclusion

Conclusions are usually written in the last tired week. Esmond checks whether yours gives a clear answer to your question, and whether it claims only what the chapters before it can support.

See how Esmond works

The two ways a conclusion disappoints

The first is the timid conclusion: a summary of each chapter in turn, ending without ever saying what the answer is. The reader finishes the dissertation knowing what you did, but not what you found.

The second is the ambitious conclusion: suddenly the eight interviews describe 'Irish SMEs', the survey of one class proves a policy should change, and new ideas appear that no chapter discussed. Both are fixable, and both are easier to spot with a second reader than on your own fourth reread.

What Esmond checks in the final chapter

A modest answer is still an answer

If your findings were mixed or did not support your expectation, the conclusion can say so plainly. That is a legitimate result, and Esmond does not treat it as a weakness. What it does flag is a conclusion that hides an inconclusive outcome behind vague wording, because examiners tend to notice that sooner than the outcome itself.

How it works

You upload your draft as a PDF. Short documents come back within minutes; a full dissertation takes longer. You get two things back: your own document with comments in the margin, and a separate feedback report that sets out what to tackle first. Every upload starts with a free preview, and the price follows the length of your document and is shown before you pay. No subscription, no account.

Esmond evaluates your work and writes nothing for you. Each comment points to a passage, explains what a supervisor or examiner might question, and gives a direction for revising it. You decide what to change, and every sentence stays yours.

Frequently asked questions

Should I upload the whole dissertation or only the conclusion?

The whole dissertation. Whether a conclusion overclaims can only be judged against the chapters it is supposed to rest on.

Does Esmond tell me if my conclusion is long enough?

No. Length expectations come from your programme. Esmond looks at what the conclusion does, not how many words it uses.
