Feedback on your English literature dissertation

In literary studies, an argument is made in the close reading. Examiners look for quotations that are analysed rather than illustrated, theory that sharpens a reading, and a thesis that develops across chapters. Esmond reads your draft for exactly that.

Quotation is not analysis

Many drafts drop a quotation in, paraphrase it, and move on. The reader sees that you found a relevant passage, not what you make of its imagery, syntax, voice or form. Esmond flags quotations that are left to speak for themselves and points to where a closer look at the language would carry your claim.

The opposite also happens: a long, careful reading of a passage that never connects back to the thesis. Esmond marks those too.

What Esmond reads for

Comparative dissertations

When you compare two or more authors, the risk is a dissertation in two halves. Esmond reads whether the comparison is doing analytical work: whether differences between the texts reveal something neither would show alone.

Whether you use MHRA, MLA or another style is your choice and your department's. Esmond does not correct citation formatting.

How it works

You upload your draft as a PDF. Short documents come back within minutes; a full dissertation takes longer. You get two things back: your own document with comments in the margin, and a separate feedback report that sets out what to tackle first. Every upload starts with a free preview, and the price follows the length of your document and is shown before you pay. No subscription, no account.

Esmond evaluates your work and writes nothing for you. Each comment points to a passage, explains what a supervisor or examiner might question, and gives a direction for revising it. You decide what to change, and every sentence stays yours.

Frequently asked questions

Will Esmond suggest better readings of my texts?

No. It points out where your reading is asserted rather than shown, or where a counter-reading is missing. The interpretation stays yours.

Can I upload a creative writing dissertation?

Esmond is built for critical and academic writing. A critical commentary or exegesis can be reviewed; the creative piece itself is outside what it evaluates.
